Darai means reserve dyeing (ikat) and Bafi means “weaving”. In this process, the warp threads are tied before dyeing to achieve a variety of colours for each thread. This technique is known and practised in many other countries, but in Iran it is performed only by men, in the city of Yadz, on the edge of the desert. It has been in use for about 400 years
